The adults in our team are:
Miss O’Hear , Miss Boes and Miss Gregory.
We have had a lovely start to the year in Miss Boes’ class. The children have engaged in some good learning and love to get stuck in with play. It has been so lovely to see the friendships starting to blossom and the children enthusiastic about learning.
Miss Boes is the class Teacher and loves everything animals. She loves making a mess with messy play, learning new things and making slime. She is also very passionate about her dog Lenny and loves having a chat about him.
Miss O’Hear loves to have fun with the children. She is also an animal lover and spends her evenings with her 4 dogs and 2 horses. Mrs Martin loves playing uno and having some quiet time drawing.
Miss Gregory is the sporty one of the team. She loves play outside with the children and is looking forward to planning what fun activities she can do with the children next year.
Literacy
Summer Term
We have been loving the story of Beowulf! The children have explored its characters and settings, looked at how the author uses adjectives to build suspense as well as what makes a good hero. We even jumped into the role of a news reporter and had great fun creating a newspaper report about Beowulf’s incredible adventure. We are looking forward to using Beowulf for a range of other writing opportunities this term.
Maths
This term, we are focusing on place value!
The children are developing their understanding of the value of each digit in a number. We have been using different representations to help us read, write, partition and compare numbers.
Science
In Science we will be learning about Animals. We will explore the importance of nutrition and exercise, as well as the functions of the skeleton and digestive system. We will also investigate the different types of teeth, as well as constructing a variety of food chains.
This topic gives us lots of opportunities for exciting (and messy) experiments as we create models to understand how things work, try different foods and observe how things change over time.
PE
This half term we will be focusing on fundamental skills and our PE lesson will take place on Wednesday each week.
Children will need to bring:
- white PE t-shirt
- black shorts or jogging bottoms
- plimsoles / non-marking trainers
Foundation Subjects
History - This term in History, children will be exploring Anglo-Saxon Britain, forming a timeline of their rule as well as exploring their daily life. We will then move on to learn about how the Vikings invaded Britain and how they changed life here. We will finish by investigating the events leading up to 1066 and how power shifted into the hands of the Normans.
Geography - This term in Geography, children will develop their knowledge of the world by locating countries using maps, with a focus on Europe, particularly the Scandinavian countries. They will explore key environmental regions, as well as important physical and human characteristics, including major countries and cities. Pupils will build confidence in using a range of mapping tools such as atlases, globes and digital maps. They will also begin to understand key aspects of physical geography, including coasts and rivers, alongside human geography topics such as settlements and cities, helping them to see how people and places are connected.
Art - This term in Art, children will be focusing on the work of Frieda Kahlo. They will explore self-portraits, building their skills in colour and composition. They will also recap different how to use brush strokes, tone and tinting to improve the quality of their final piece.
DT - This term in Design and Technology, children will research, design, build and evaluate a torch! They will apply skills from science to create simple circuits, as well as skills from art in order to design an appealing product. Children will be invited to share and discuss their product in front of others, as well as provide feedback to others in order to improve their work.
Music - This term in Music, children will focus on performing, both solo and as a part of a group. They will explore how to make compositions and practice using different ways to record and express music. This will lead to rehearsal and practice of a final piece linked to our Beowulf story.
Computing - This term in Computing, children will be investigating the physical side of computers, learning the names of different parts of hardware as well as their functions.
RE - In RE this term we are learning about how different groups welcome new life. We will look at Christian and Hindu practices principally, but also explore the practises of other world religions. We will learn about the ceremonies that take place, the symbols including in them and what the significance of these are.
PSHE - This term in PSHE, we are discussing families and relationships. We will look at the different types of families, developing respectful language along the way. We will learn about what makes a relationship healthy, how to be a good friend and how our actions and words affect others.
MFL - This term in French, children will focus on building their daily vocabulary through learning about greetings and responses. We will learn introductions and basic conversation, as well as looking at the structure of basic French.
Personal Developmental Play
Play will be at the heart of our learning over the term. Supported by regular assessments using the Boxall Profiles, our children will engage in play activities which support their growth and nurture their social skills.
We have a wide range of games and toys to play with in class, from constructive toys like Geomag and Lego, to board games such as Jenga and Chess. Options like dress-up will help children engage in imaginative play, as well as our class immersive area, which is themed around Beowulf in line with our class book.
