What fun we have had with it!

The children worked together to write a playscript based on the story of the boy and penguin. They created an amazing script that told the story of their friendship and finding each other.
Then our filming began, the children spent time rehearsing and directing each other before we filmed their masterpiece.

This term, we have focused on measurement.

The children secured skills in measuring length and height in CM and Metres, weighing in G and KG and exploring capacity and volume and measuring liquids in ml and litres.

We've had a lot of fun while learning these important skills and kept up place value work where we have began our multiplication recall.

Take a look at some of our maths tuff spots!

Forces and Magnets

Our class has been exploring forces and magnets in our science lessons. We learned that a force is a push or a pull that can make objects move, stop, speed up, slow down or change direction.
The children enjoyed testing different pushes and pulls using everyday objects. As part of our learning, we also investigated magnets and discovered that they can attract certain materials such as iron and steel. We explored how magnets have north and south poles, and found out that opposite poles attract while the same poles repel. Through fun experiments and hands-on investigations, the class developed their curiosity and understanding of how forces and magnets work in the world around us

This half term we are exploring Parkour and the agility skills needed to move our bodies.
Our PE lesson will take place Monday each week.

Children will need to bring:

  • white PE t-shirt
  • black shorts or jogging bottoms
  • plimsoles / non-marking trainers

Our class has been learning parkour during our PE lessons. Parkour is all about moving around obstacles using skills such as jumping, balancing, climbing and landing safely. The children have been practising how to travel across different equipment in creative ways while improving their balance, coordination and confidence. We have also focused on working safely, supporting each other and trying new challenges.

In our foundation subjects, the class is learning a range of exciting topics.

In French, we practised greetings and have learnt the words for different colours and shapes. In Geography, we are exploring the United Kingdom and the four countries that make it up. Our Computing has focused on online safety and how to stay safe when using the internet and gaming. In History, we are learning about exciting explorers and the journeys they make to discover new places around the world.

At Fortuna School, our play curriculum is far more than a break from learning—it’s a carefully crafted, powerful vehicle that nurtures every child’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.

We embed play into our school day, it is part of our lessons, social interactions and we deliberately make time in the day to take a break and immerse ourselves into some play which supports children’s emotional development by giving them the space to express feelings, build resilience, and develop self-confidence. It also encourages social growth, as children learn how to share, take turns, cooperate, and solve problems together.

Miss Weatherall particularly loves messy, sensory and water play, arts and crafts and having music on in class for a dance break!
