The adults in our team are:
Mrs McLeod, Miss Weatherall and Miss Walker.
We are looking forward to seeing you all in September. This term we will be looking at a variety of books and basing our learning around these. In the first week back we will be looking at unicorns and dragons. We will have lots of messy play and tuff trays in class each week along with nice choosing’s.
Miss Weatherall is the class Teacher and loves singing and dancing, especially to Taylor Swift. Her favourite flower is a sunflower and she loves choosing’s.
Mrs McLeod is a Teaching Assistant in class and loves to do crafty activities with the children. Outside of school Miss McLeod loves spending time with her family.
Miss Walker is a Teaching Assistant in class. She loves dogs, playing choosing’s and reading books.
Literacy
Autumn Term
This term, we are exploring a book a week, practicing reading skills, phonics and writing alongside the theme of each story.
So far we have have read 'Room on the Broom' by Julia Donaldson and 'You Can't Fit an Elephant on a Bus' by Patricia Cleveland-Peck. In the coming weeks, we will be reading the new Gruffalo Granny and The Scarecrow's Wedding.
Maths
Autumn Term
The children will start to grow their confidence in place value which is the foundations of early math, focusing on counting, understanding the value of each digit as well as reading and writing numbers. Our math lessons, will be practical, giving the children confidence in using resources to support their learning.
Science
Autumn Term
This term, our children will be developing their understanding of the world around them through our science learning. We will be exploring animals and learning how to identify and group different animals based on their features. The children will have opportunities to look closely at a range of animals, talk about what makes them similar and different, and develop their scientific vocabulary through practical, hands-on activities. We will also be learning that animals can be grouped in different ways, helping the children to become curious scientists and make observations about the world around them.
P.E.
This half term we will be focusing on movement skills, fitness and following instructions and our PE lesson will take place on Tuesday each week.
Children will need to bring:
- white PE t-shirt
- black shorts or jogging bottoms
- plimsoles / non-marking trainers
Foundation Subjects
Autumn Term
History - This term we will be learning the exciting history of Neil Armstrong and the moon landings.
Geography - This term in Geography we will be naming, locating, identifying countries and capital cities in the UK and surrounding seas. We will be focusing on naming and locating the 7 continents and 5 oceans.
RE - This term is RE, we will be beginning to explore Christianity. We will have a lot of fun exploring what Christians learn about God and Jesus through the bible.
Art - In Art this term, we will be exploring Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian. We will be looking at how we can use the primary colours to create our own collages.
DT - DT -This term in DT, the children will take part in a specialised workshop that focuses on the core skills in design technology such as, problem solving, critical thinking and working as a team.
Music - We will be looking at how to use our bodies to make noises, looking at different volumes, speed and patterns of noises.
PSHE - We will be exploring families and looking at friendships.
Personal Developmental Play
Miss Weatherall loves messy play, roleplay, music, singing and dancing and dressing up!
These are all available to the children, with guidance, structure and support from class adults, in the first term we will focus on the fundamentals of play, the children will be supported to share, take turns, wait and talk to each other before moving on to more explorative and free play.
Using our Boxall profile assessment the children are then given personalised developmental play targets, that will support their social skills, play, learning and foundational skills.
