Autumn Term

This term in Literacy, we are diving into the exciting and funny book A Mummy Ate My Homework by Thiago de Moraes. The story follows Henry, a boy who suddenly finds himself in Ancient Egypt – where homework, pyramids, and mummies collide!

Autumn Term

At the beginning of this term, we will be focusing on number and place value. The children will be developing their confidence in counting, reading, and writing numbers, as well as understanding the value of each digit. We will be practising counting forwards and backwards, recognising numbers on number lines and hundred squares, and using practical resources to represent numbers in different ways.

Autumn Term

In Science, we will be learning about States of Matter. The children will explore the differences between solids, liquids, and gases, and investigate how materials can change from one state to another. We’ll carry out hands-on experiments to observe melting, freezing, evaporating, and condensing, helping the children to see these changes in action. This topic will encourage lots of questioning, predicting, and problem-solving, as we discover more about the world around us.

Autumn Term

This half term we will be focusing on Fundamental movement skills and our PE lesson will take place on Wednesday each week.

Children will need to bring:

  • white PE t-shirt
  • black shorts or jogging bottoms
  • plimsoles / non-marking trainers

Autumn Term

History - In History, we will be learning all about Ancient Egypt. The children will explore what life was like thousands of years ago, finding out about pharaohs, pyramids, mummies, and the River Nile.

Geography - In Geography, we will be learning to locate countries around the world using maps, with a particular focus on Europe (including Russia), North America, and South America. The children will explore environmental regions, key physical and human features, and find out about some of the major cities within these areas.

Art - In Art, we will be studying still life, working with both pencil and watercolours. The children will explore the work of Vincent Van Gogh, focusing on his famous Sunflowers paintings, and will practise using a range of pencils and techniques to show effect, movement, perspective, and reflection. They will also develop their observational drawing skills by sketching real-life objects before applying watercolour techniques. Later in the term, we will study William Morris, experimenting with printing techniques to design and make our own wrapping paper in time for Christmas.

DT - In DT, the children will be exploring mechanisms. They will learn how levers, linkages, and moving parts work, and use this knowledge to design and make their own moving product. The children will develop their skills in planning, building, and evaluating, while also thinking about how mechanisms are used in everyday life.

Music - In Music, the children will be focusing on performing and singing with expression. They will explore how poetry and song lyrics can be brought to life through music, while developing their understanding of beat and rhythm. The children will have opportunities to practise singing together, keeping time, and performing with confidence.

Computing - In Computing, the children will be learning how to use email safely and effectively. They will practise writing and sending emails, understand how to use subject lines and attachments, and learn about the importance of online safety when communicating digitally. This will help them develop real-life digital skills while building awareness of how to stay safe online.

RE - In RE, the children will be learning about Hinduism and Islam. They will explore the beliefs, traditions, and practices of these two religions, including key festivals, places of worship, and important symbols. The children will be encouraged to ask questions and reflect on similarities and differences between religions, helping to develop respect and understanding for different faiths.

PSHE - In PSHE, the children will be learning about families and relationships. They will explore the different types of families, how to build positive relationships, and the importance of kindness, respect, and understanding in friendships and at home.
